24 poses (portretten)

24 poses (portraits) is a tragicomedy written by Serge Boucher, originally created in 1999, and now revived in a new production at Théâtre Jean-Duceppe. The play centres on the Dubé family gathering in the backyard of a bungalow to celebrate Richard's 40th birthday, capturing the comic and quietly dramatic dynamics of a recognizable Quebec family.

The production is directed by Édith Patenaude, with Guylaine Tremblay — who participated in the original creation — returning in the role of Claire, the mother. Martin Drainville plays Denis, the father. The ensemble cast includes Émilie Bibeau, Marc Beaupré, Frédéric Blanchette, Gabriel Favreau, Myriam Fournier, and Benoit Mauffette.

Serge Boucher, also known for his television work on Aveux, Apparences, and Feux, crafts a hyper-realistic and rhythmic language that brings to life the unspoken tensions, small misunderstandings, and everyday tenderness of family life. The piece balances genuine humour with emotional depth.

The production runs 23 performances from September 2 to October 3, 2026, at Théâtre Jean-Duceppe in Montreal. Tickets are priced from $33 to $97.50, taxes and fees included, and are available through Duceppe.
