Their Master's Voice is an internationally acclaimed stage spectacle starring Hollywood legend John Malkovich, accompanied by two opera singers, an actress, baroque musicians, and a 12-voice choir. Set in 1725, the production follows composer Nicola Porpora and his turbulent relationships with the two greatest castrati of his era, Farinelli and Caffarelli, exploring the boundaries of artistic creation and provocation.
Malkovich brings his singular presence and voice to the role of Porpora โ a fitting choice for an actor known for iconic film performances in Dangerous Liaisons and Being John Malkovich. The production is directed by Michael Sturminger, whose work bridges classical music and contemporary theatre. Sturminger and Malkovich previously collaborated on the 2014 film Casanova Variations.
Originally commissioned by the Opรฉra de Monte-Carlo, Their Master's Voice premiered in Vienna in 2024 and has since triumphed at venues including the Opรฉra royal de Versailles in Paris. Its Montreal performance is part of a world tour.
